Havana
One of the main resorts and the capital of the island, independent travelers come here to rest first of all. Here hotels are located both in the old historical part and in the new one. While staying in the old town, you will be conveniently located to all the attractions, but most likely you will have to stay in a small, inexpensive hotel without a pool, of which there are most. This will be an acceptable cost for a trip to Cuba for two. In the modern buildings of the new part of the city, hotels are more comfortable, there are swimming pools and large well-groomed areas. Havana hotels do not have their own beaches, and all-inclusive meals are not common here. Usually only breakfast is offered.
The main attractions of Havana:
- the presidential palace, which housed the museum of the revolution. There is an exposition about the history of Cuba, the Cuban revolution and the life of Che Guevara,
- The Capitol is a monumental building, erected in the likeness of the Capitol in Washington,
- Museum of Cuban Rum - a drink that is an integral part of the history of Cuba, for what this country is associated, for what it is famous.
Prices for excursions in Cuba start from 15 USD for a walking tour with a Russian guide, up to 150 USD for large excursions with air travel.
Holidays in the Cuban capital will appeal to those who prefer walking in order to admire historical sites, and not lie on the sand. Because relaxing on city beaches is not recommended: there are many poisonous jellyfish in the water, and the bottom is strewn with stones and sharp corals.
For swimming, we recommend the beaches to the east of the city:
- Bakuranao - a beach located 12 km from the city, with velvet sand, decent bars and cafes (you can eat seafood from 700 rubles for one), royal palms and a lot of noisy entertainment. It is better to get there by taxi, but you can take bus 400 on a budget.
- Santa Maria del Mar - the main beach, occupies 9 km of the Havana coast. One of the largest tourist centers with an abundance of hotels, all kinds of restaurants and bars. From Havana to get to him on a regular bus.
Varadero
One of the best resorts in Cuba for families with children. 20 kilometers of white sand washed by the warm Atlantic Ocean, a wide variety of hotels and entertainment. Attractive beaches that have repeatedly hit the top of the best in the world. All are free and recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly in the world. People come here for a relaxing holiday on white sand, delicious cocktails with rum and beautiful views.
Here you can find mini hotels, luxury five-star hotels, and romantic bungalows for every budget. A great place for a family vacation, especially since there is a discount for placing children in the same room with adults. Wi-fi is usually paid. Most travelers buy all-inclusive tours, which are much better than the Egyptian and Turkish ones. There is an abundance of meat and seafood.
Prices in all-inclusive hotels in Cuba start at 6 thousand for two per day when traveling on their own. The cost of tours for 7 nights starts from 149 thousand rubles.
Since the resort was set up for a beach holiday, there are few particularly noteworthy places here.
The main ones are:
- the mansion of Dupont, from which the history of the resort begins. This is a huge villa, built in 1933 and then considered the height of technology,
- Hosone Park with diverse flora and fauna,
- Ambrosio cave with ancient rock paintings,
- diving in the Cayo Pedras Marine Park, in the waters of which several ships and aircraft were deliberately sunk for the interest of divers.
Santiago de Cuba
The second largest city on the island. It is one of the oldest settlements with buildings from the colonial era. The famous Cuban Carnival and Fire Festival are held here. This place is perfect for diving enthusiasts. After all, here is the warmest water, it warms up to +35 degrees.
The main attractions of Santiago de Cuba:
- Cabaret Tropicana - the most famous show in the country and the main center of entertainment,
- defensive fortress of San Pedro de la Roca with a piracy museum,
- the cemetery of Santa Ifichenia is a cultural object - the burial place of thousands of famous historical figures, with unique marble monuments and sculptures.
Holguin
It is an elite resort with beach hotels and prices per night from 9 thousand rubles. There are 40 beaches here, many of which are recognized as the best in the world. There are few entertainments, since the resort is intended for a quieter, respectable vacation:
- diving,
- deep sea fishing,
- surfing,
- walks on catamarans.

In Cuba, two types of currency are officially used: for tourists and for the local population. Visitors exchange currency for a convertible peso called CUC... "Cookies" can be used to pay for purchases in shops, services in hotels and other places visited by tourists. The CUC rate is rigidly tied to the dollar rate and a 10% commission is charged when exchanging, so it is better to take euros with you.
The local currency is the peso national... You can only buy locally produced goods for it, or pay for some services.
It is better to plan a trip to Cuba in the winter, when the climate is more favorable for recreation. However, if you want to save money, but at the same time see the island of freedom, feel free to take tickets for the summer months.
