What food to try in Paphos? Traditionally advise:
- meat and fish meze - assorted 20-30 dishes. All menus say: order for at least two persons. Meze costs from 15 to 20 euros. Served with Greek salad, fries, bread and a variety of sauces;
- kleftiko - pieces of lamb baked with spices;
- dolmades - minced meat with rice, wrapped in grape leaves;
- souvla and souvlaki - pieces of meat on skewers, similar to our barbecue, and pork or chicken;
- moussaka - the most delicate casserole with eggplant, zucchini and minced meat with béchamel sauce;
- stifado - beef stew;
- seafood: deep-fried squid, shrimp, mussels, octopus, oysters.
Drinks in Paphos
First of all, Cyprus is famous, of course, for its wines. The famous "Commandaria" has been known since the Middle Ages! Experienced people recommend trying other famous Cypriot wines: Saint Pantelemon, Othello, Aphrodite, Olimpus, Thisby and so on.

Shops in Paphos
Many (locals and tourists alike) buy groceries at the supermarket Papantoniou... One of them is located not far from the port and the bus station - from Apostle Paul Avenue you need to turn onto Lidos Street. Papantoniou is a budget supermarket with perhaps the most affordable food prices in Paphos! For comparison, a 0.5 liter bottle of Adonis water costs 19 eurocents, while the exact same bottle on the waterfront sells for 1.5 euros. Well, the pastries at Papantoniou are amazingly delicious! The cakes are very beautiful and cost from 10 euros. Various airy mousses are sold per piece from 1.5 euros, magic and sweet bakhlava (almost like baklava - a dessert in syrup and honey with nuts) - 1.5 euros, a juicy apple pie costs about the same. Donuts cost € 1.42 (large and hearty, with or without filling). Often various promotions are held in the store - 1 + 1 or simply discounts up to 50% on the products of a particular company. For example, in the department with cheeses and sausages, such promotions are almost always available.
There are often discounts on alcoholic beverages. For example, the delicious St. John Commandaria from the local KEO company can be bought for only 11.43 euros. The beer is sold both local and imported. Local - from KEO and LEON - of course, cheaper: somewhere around 1.5 euros for a bottle of about 0.63 liters.
But dairy products in Cyprus are quite expensive. A bottle of kefir or fermented baked milk with a volume of 0.5 liters costs about 2.20 euros.
Apart from Papantoniou, there are other shops in Paphos. At Kings Avenue Mall, on the second floor, you'll find a Carrefour supermarket that also has fairly cheap groceries and frequent promotions.
Thus, it is more prudent to buy food in Paphos in supermarkets and cook it yourself, if possible, since the service and dishes in restaurants are often disappointing. So, when ordering meze at Pelican, you risk getting no more than 10 (and not the most delicious) dishes for 20 euros instead of the promised 20 dishes.
